The House bill will die in the Senate, and RFK’s announcement is not final or legally binding yet. They are both very bad, and we’re moving in the wrong direction, but I don’t think there is anything that has actually changed yet, as a result of those.

Which state you’re in is going to matter a lot. If leaving the country isn’t an option (as is the case for most of us), then moving to a friendlier state might be more doable.

I would also do some research on grey market and DIY options, if a total ban does someday go into effect

Oh yeah, definitely! Even in legal states, if you’re on federal property (like National Forests), possession is still a crime. Gotta be careful with stuff like that

I meant that they aren’t arguing over it as in the DOJ isn’t suing states over having legalized it. Although if I recall correctly, the Obama admin DEA did conduct raids on medicinal dispensaries in states where it was legal

It gets weird and messy fast

Yep. But when two laws are in conflict, the higher law wins. So state laws supersede local laws, and federal laws beat state laws. Of course, there is also weirdness where the higher body might just choose not to argue with the lower body over conflicting laws, like with cannabis legalization.

Yeah, my bookmark never got much more than 100 pages into Ecology of Freedom

New Zealand, probably

I keep my eye out for positions that open up near me. Nothing interesting enough for me to endure the hassle of the hiring process to pursue, at least lately

I’m big on podcasts too, I’d be bored to absolute tears without them

I dabble in Python, and I’ve made a few scripts that are really helpful and speed up my work a lot. I’m trying to figure out how I can develop that further, right now I’m thinking about learning VBA to make scripts to automate file sorting from my Outlook

That’s a good idea! I like making wikis Obsidian, so it might be fun to build a wiki out of professional development webinars. It could actually turn into a helpful resource

I do my job! The work-to-“hours I’m required to be there” ratio is just not in favor of keeping me occupied all the time

Yes, but there’s only so much that can be done before a project needs funding or other people’s involvement to move forward. And in my workplace, there is a culture of “stay in your lane and don’t rock the boat”. So I have to choose carefully when and where I try to expand the boundaries of my role.

I enjoy the work I do, but there’s often a lot of downtime. And I’m definitely not going to advertise that fact and ask for more work. I just feel like my time-killing options are limited, because I can’t use my actual computer to research and write, so I’m stuck scrolling on my phone.

Bonus points if you manage to work on personal projects without leaving a trail IT can see on your work computer.

We met through a shared college class, and became friends studying. We kept having lunch every few months for a couple years while we both dated other people. Eventually the stars aligned, and we went on date! Here we are 11 years later, happily married <3

I’ve been struggling with writer’s block for a while, feeling like there’s no point in me writing anything when there’s already so much out there for people to read. When you have writer’s block, how do you get out of the rut and start writing again?

What is it about Idaho in particular that appeals so much to neo-Nazis and other far-right extremists that they all keep moving out there?
