Consider moving to a blue state. We need a TRANScontinental rail road, (like the underground RR,) to help trans people relocate to blue states.
There's an underground for everything. In the same way you can order abortion pills online, I'm sure you can also order other meds. Connect with the community. They will be your best resource.
Step 1: don't panic. The same garbage rule that is going to cost anyone on a ACA plan thousands of dollars next year will also hopefully keep MTG's transphobic bullshit from becoming law.
Step 2: prepare to endure. Talk to your trans-kid's pediatrician or specialist NOW about roll-your-own HRT and puberty blockers. (You don't want the only person advising you on them to be an unlicensed internet pharmacist). Get a lawyer if you can or get in contact with your local trans advocacy group.
Step 3: prepare to move. Leaving a garbage red state for a brave blue state is good advice for anyone who isn't a white nazi. New York and New England or the west coast. Not VA, PA or MI (Both lovely, too purple).
Step 4: prepare to flee. Do NOT keep your family here if elections are cancelled, civil war breaks out, or the post-truno POTUS is an even worse Christian DominionIst.
Step 5: talk to your kid about what THEY want. Children are just temporarily disabled adults, and they may surprise you.
Step 6: vote. Pick Republican or Democrat, and vote in EVERY election, general or primary, whether you like the candidates or need to just spoil your ballot.
Step 7: advocate. As much as you can, tell your neighbors and reps and random strangers that your kid shouldn't live in fear or be tortured because some small-hearted bigot doesn't know the difference between sex and gender.
If you aren't going to leave the US, at the very least get a gun.
+1
Armed Minorities are harder to oppress.
"Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary" -Karl Marx
If you can leave, do so. I'm saying this as a trans woman who has been out for 10+ years and left. It's no longer safe for us.
It's very difficult, probably the hardest thing I've done in my life, but the threat in the US is existential. Trans people were among the first sent to the camps.
Avoid the UK as well. Other countries have their problems but the US and UK are especially bad.
I am not following details of USA, but I would like your opinion. In what sense the threat is existential? Can you give some examples? What camps?
It's existential in the sense that trans people's existence is being threatened. As in, the US is headed down the same path as the Nazis, with trans people about to be rounded up into concentration camps and mass-murdered.
The blood libel has been going on for a while now. The registrations have already started. Pink triangles and pogroms are the next step.
(I'm saying this as a cis-het white male, BTW. Even I can see the writing on the wall.)
Like the other guy said, they want to wipe us off the map. Their goal is a white cishet "Christian" (but only their flavor) ethno state where anyone outside the mold ceases to exist. This is not sarcasm nor hyperbole, they are quite open about their intentions. Many of those in power even have the tattoos to match
The camps have already started for immigrants (of which I'm also one yay) such as at Alligator Alcatraz. They're ignoring court orders to send people to camps in El Salvador and Africa. They're actively collecting lists of trans people and dissenters, labelling us all terrorists, and openly talking about sending people to labor camps (see: RFK). The writing on the wall is very clear
Realistically: move to/near a major city in a blue state like nyc or seattle
Blue states like NY have statewide rules about trans care, so ifyou would rather live in a rural or small town they might still be a safe place to relocate.
(Edit: added the missing if)
states like NY have statewide rules about trans care, so ifyou would rather live in a rural or small town
Sooo, Massena?
- international airport
- river access
- undefended border
- ... and lots of green corridors
I'm not saying you should be in a position to flee in your kayaks across the river, but kayaking in the river around Massena sounds like a great pastime as long as one doesn't aggressively paddle down the nearby river to the seaway trail and portage the little dam there as one could become disoriented and lose one's bearings with all the exertion and potentially get lost in the northern wilderness, officer, and that's my story.
Ahh. I was going to say that sometimes, urban areas can be safer than rural areas. And then I realized that you probably have a typo. You said "so you would rather live" but I think you meant "so if you would rather live".
Thanks! (Fixed now.)
You mentioned "VA, PA, OR MI" then said "both" in parentheses, too.
The House bill will die in the Senate, and RFK’s announcement is not final or legally binding yet. They are both very bad, and we’re moving in the wrong direction, but I don’t think there is anything that has actually changed yet, as a result of those.
Which state you’re in is going to matter a lot. If leaving the country isn’t an option (as is the case for most of us), then moving to a friendlier state might be more doable.
I would also do some research on grey market and DIY options, if a total ban does someday go into effect
Leave the US if at all possible
Bleak, just like the outlook for those of us who aren't trans.
Europe but i can only speak as the boyfriend of my british partner finding jobs is hell and without a job you wont stay here for long
Im talking even with experience and degree and speaking german really well and i would say fluent for only 3 years learning, they cant find a job
I know that this is an acute problem that needs acute solution.
But jobs are generally going outdated fast. With advances in automation, the question is no more how to preserve / get job for oneself, but how to set up our society to be well without need for job in the first place.
There's also DIY
