Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/community@instance.com)

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

!community@instance.com

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave.

If you have enough interest to create a community, you probably know something about the subject matter, so PLEASE add some posts (5-10 would be a good start). Maybe some questions to get people talking, even popular reposts from other sites. It sucks shouting into a void, but if you don't do it, everyone else will also be shouting into a void.

Also please consider whether you need to create a community! When there are 100 million users of the site, there may be 1000 people who are interested in the same exact niche tabletop RPG as you, but there are <500,000 users here for now, so you'll be lucky to find 10. Consider creating a thread in a broader community (like boardgames) until you have enough people talking in the thread that it gets messy - then it's time to create a separate community.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Pen & Paper

!pen_and_paper@lemmy.world

https://lemmy.world/c/pen_and_paper

This community is all about using pen and paper as a deliberate choice — because handwriting helps memory, deepens learning, sharpens focus, and unlocks creativity in ways screens often can’t. Whether you’re sketching ideas, drafting a to‑do list, or mapping out a semester, the physical act of writing slows things down just enough for the thoughts to really land.

All notebook and calendar types are welcome here: plain bound notebooks, bullet journals, Filofax systems, ring‑ and disc‑bound setups, sticky notes, legal pads, or whatever you throw together.

Privacy matters. With paper you keep control as your notes aren’t tracked, used to train algorithms or so. That sense of ownership makes paper a safe place for brainstorming, personal plans, and messy drafts that you don’t want floating in the cloud.

This is a place to share practical tips, clever layouts, before‑and‑after spreads, and what you’ve learned about staying organized (or unorganized) offline. Post pictures, ask for feedback, swap templates, or just brag about a perfect page.

Come as you are: Neat planner nerds, scrapbookers, list lovers, or anyone curious about slowing down. Bring your spreads, hacks, inserts, index systems, and the little rituals that make your setup work.

I have created !commentmitosis@lemmy.dbzer0.com as a clone of r/commentmitosis. It is for screenshots of comments/posts that are duplicated (usually because of being accidentally posted twice, or due to lag when attempting to post). It is one of those communities that you link to in comments a lot.

I made yet another community.

The Grind & Bind Art Alchemist's Guild

Alt Link: !Art_Alchemist_Guild@lemmy.today

This one was inspired by a post I made a few days ago about my DIY pigments. A few people expressed interest in the hobby so I made a space for all the extreme do-it-yourselfers of the art world.

Since this is my third community, and it will feature regular topic discussions, I'm looking for support from participants and want to add mods. Chillness is the main thing I look for in a mod, people who serve the vibe first and the rules second. People who genuinely want folks to have a good time, but able to put on the soft daddy shoes, and if necessary, put the mean kids in time out.

From the sidebar:

This is an artist’s community for the kind of people who don’t just paint, they grind pigments. Potters who build their own kilns and dig their clay up from the river bed. Weavers who spin their own wool, and hell, maybe even know the name of the sheep.

All flavors of art are welcome. Talk about your materials, your processes, and share your art for critique.

I am pleased to announce that Keyboard Vagabond is open for registration for Piefed, Pixelfed, Mastodon, Bookwyrm, and Write Freely. This server targets the traveler and digital nomad niche and I hope for it to become a useful repository of information and communication around those topics! The main web page includes an introduction to the fediverse to help people get started and feedback is greatly appreciated!

And, most excitedly, this is Seymour, the mascot of the keyboard vagabond servers.

The Boondocks (testing.crazypeople.online)
submitted 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) by nocturne@slrpnk.net to c/newcommunities@lemmy.world

Adding to the comic strip communities of the fediverse, i started The Boondocks today. !theboonkdocks@slrpnk.net

The Boondocks is probably most well known for the Adult Swim cartoon, but before that it was a comic strip that started in "The Diamondback", the student newspaper at the University of Maryland, College Park on 3 December 1996.

It ran there until March of 1997 when a strip was missed, the following day a large OOPS was published in the strip's place. The artist, and creator of the strip, Aaron McGruder then started publishing The Boondocks in Source magazine from 97-98. The earliest strip in syndication is 19 April 1999.

It was also published on hitlist.com. Initially i thought that happened after it left the Diamondback, but it actually sounds like it was published there first.

A moderator for lostmediawiki went to the University of Maryland library and found microfiche of the Diamondback and has shared the early Boondocks Strips. They are quite rough visually. Thank you to Lucy for preserving these.

Since I missed the actual first day of the strip, i will post a few to get us caught up. Then there will be a break for March and half of April (unless someone manages to uncover any strips) when I will resume on the 19th with the strips from 1999.

!svgclub@blackneon.net

I created a new community, where we can share SVG memes, templates and comics.

My motivation here is that a lot of old memes that was converted to SVG got lost(due to the download link get taken down) and I am sure a lot of people are in love with SVG format and would like to archive as much valuable content in that format.

Currently, the content I am going to post is mostly going to be from meme restoration subreddit.

I want to expand this and make it comprehensive, so if you have any suggestions, please put it in the comments.

I made a community for anyone to recommend any music that motivates you to workout or just get moving.

I added a few songs just to get things going, but it really doesn't have to be any specific genre. Whatever gets your dopamine flowing/gets you motivated to work out or even just get shit done after you've been procrastinating for a while. Please feel free to share or discuss.

Thanks!
