After 5 months of chipping away at it, PieFed is now an installable 'app' in the Yunohost store! It's been there for a couple of weeks actually but until this weekend it had a scary red exclamation mark because some automated tests hadn't ran yet. But that's gone now so I feel confident about recommending it to others.

Yunohost is a linux distro for servers that has a web gui for installing and managing services, that takes all the hassle out of self-hosting. How to get started with Yunohost.

@squirrel@piefed.kobel.fyi and @michael@piefed.chrisco.me have had good success setting up their instances already: https://piefed.social/c/piefed_meta/p/1561141/thanks-to-rimu-ericgaspar-and-tituspijean-yunohost-has-a-working-piefed-setup

Yeah every couple of years, you just unscrew and clean. Its pretty easy.

For me its the old fans and vacuum cleaners. Over 40/years old each and still going strong. Clear labeling inside and have been fixed up multiple times.

Clothing!

Lots of clothes only last a couple of years then they break apart, holes appears, etc...

We have a local collective that fixes clothes and its helped keep them alive for 10+ years now. But jeens, shirts, ect that are newer seem to be worse somehow. They don't last nearly as long.

I got mine from a Canadian reseller, shipped to the us that doesn't have the Sim + I own. If I would have went with the official insurance way, it would have cost 2x ish AND the machine itself can magically last for 10 years since it's a Canadian model....and all the parts are the same.

Don't be a jerk and you will be fine.

We are all mostly human here. Just remember that. Hope you have a great time on the fediverse!

Looking back at a year of FOSS activism, spurred by political events.

I created a honeypot that is only accessible if they click the "don't click this unless you are a bot". If they do after 3 times, poof the IP gets banned for a day. Its worked well.

Simple little flask app. Robots.text as well but only google seems to actually read that and respect it.

Fediverse seems like its stabilizing: https://fediverse.observer/dailystats&days=1000

(and these are the servers that allow the crawler from the observer, so its highly likely the numbers are much larger).

We are seeing:

Overall pretty good! Keeping the momentum going. Thanks everyone, whichever platform/instance you hail from!

I used to love to use Jerboa for my lemmy needs. However I made the jump earlier in the year over to piefed and I have been enjoying it ever since. I like the extended federation support, the flair, and multi-post comments features all rolled into one.

What does the community think of potential Piefed support?
