It could've been worse

You've basically just re-defined intelligence as selfishness.

It's paid, but (at least in my case) doesn't pay that much. It's barely enough to live off of if you're really careful with your money. I wouldn't have been able to do it without accumulating significant savings beforehand.

Anything else it's comparable with a random person on the street.

I'd say we're actually worse than the average person at everything else. Too much of our brain is allocated to our research.

PhD level of sufficiently regular but transient discipline and hyperfocus.

All the AI companies would beg to differ

What that random idiot said

Pebble seems to be headed in a good direction ever since it got bought back by the original founder.

And also ask: do they gain anything from lying about it?

I work in AI research, so naturally, AI is part of our day to day work. But when it comes to things like LLMs tools and other generative models, we rarely hear anyone talk about those. Sometimes, people will share their workflow, and that may involve LLMs to supplement traditional search engines for literature reviews for example. That's about the extent of it. No one really cares to talk about them much. No one pushed those tools on us. We just do our work with whatever tools we think are best.

So throw all caution out the window in the absence of evidence? What kind of logic is that?

Thanks. So it sounds like it probably has the same effect as other microplastics? Chemically inert, but can physically cause damage.

I believe the harms that are well known are the environmental impacts and that on people involved in its production. Weighing all of that together, I'll maintain my policy that I'd never buy a non-stick, but if I happen to have one, I'm not going to toss it and create more waste than is necessary. I mainly keep mine around because other people (e.g. parents) like to use them sometimes when they visit.
