While I'm not making Christmas gifts this year, I will be taking my handtools and workbench to my sisters house. Her family is hosting Christmas for about twenty people.

There's always a lot of meandering around and waiting for food to finish cooking, so I decided to take over my tools to teach anyone who is interested in the basics of woodworking.

I'm also taking my leather craft tools in case anyone is interested in doing that too.

Knowledge and a distraction from boredom will be my gift.

Thank you very much :)

If you don't mind jigs and power tools it's still possible to do woodworking.

Thanks! If it makes you feel better, these were farm raised Doves that passed away from old age.

These are not my first dovetails but it has been a while since I've cut them. This set were not very good but I'll slow down for the next ones.

A few tips.

  • Make sure sole is flat and smooth.
  • Flatten the frog so the blade makes full contact.
  • Make sure the area of the cap that touches the bald is flat.
  • Start your cut with the blade fully retracted. Then turn your knobs a quarter turn untill you begin to cut.

I'm not sure what the cutting angle should be or if you need a secondary bevel. I will be learning that probably tomorrow when I sharpen mine.

In the photo the two pieces are just butted against each other. This is just to show how they will look.

I will make dovetails and then assemble them.

Thanks! It's been a while since I've used a spokeshave so it took a little adjustment to get a better cut.

I think I need to do a little work on the edge of the blade itself, so I'll probably do that right before I make the finish cuts. :)

Bookends WIP (lemmy.world)

Making some bookeneds by hand.

So far I used hand saws to rough cut and rip the board. Then a shooting board to create flat and perpendicular edges.

A saw and chisel to begin the curved edges. A carving knife to get me close and a spoke shave to give it a smoother curve.

Next will be dovetails.

So Trump will pardon them right?

They'll put millions into Trump crypto so Trump will parden them?

Or they'll squeal on other cartels and get pardoned. It's very transparent.

They should be hanged.
