When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of “disaster,” I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.

Good. Can’t wait to beat this drum to hopefully shame the less than useless US congress to do ANYTHING.

After sleeping this off I think I was being too much of a dick needlessly. I can respect and agree with your desire to make sure facts are well vetted before potentially pushing a false narrative. Cheers mate

Sounds like maybe a Gish gallop?

Yeah I’m admittedly feeling petty today which is why I chirped in on this thread after our prior exchange. They’re right about the diaspora, which I did not refute, but the way they structured their sentence, particularly in using the word especially, came across as stating that both the nation and their diaspora are majority Christian. The fact that the Pew study from 8 years following the initial figure of 54% pegs the Christians at an even lower share would support the idea that the diaspora is disproportionately Christian. Still doesn’t change the fact that the hero of the day is a Muslim, as stated by multiple news outlets and the PM of Israel.

But hey, don’t listen to me, I’m just a barely literate propaganda bot ;)

lol yes I made this account years ago in preparation for an argument as stupid as this. You sound ridiculous.

The majority of Lebanese people

Last I checked less than half =/= majority. The fact that you’re correct about the diaspora is immaterial. I simply provided data that shows you’re wrong, and ironically, the one spreading misinformation.

Picking up two L’s in this thread must be rough for your ego, sorry bud. Nice ad hominem though

A 2012 study conducted by Statistics Lebanon, a Beirut-based research firm, estimated Lebanon's population to be 54% Muslim (27% Shia; 27% Sunni), 46% Christian (31.5% Maronite, 8% Greek Orthodox, 6.5% other Christian groups) [11]

According to a 2020 analysis by the Pew Research Center, the demographic landscape of Lebanon reveals a Christian population estimated at 27.9%, with Muslims constituting the majority at 67.8%. This data underscores the religious diversity within Lebanon, reflecting a dynamic interplay of different faith communities within the country.[13

'We saw the actions of a brave man... a brave Muslim, and I salute him for stopping one of the terrorists from killing innocent Jews,' the Prime Minister stated, as reported by the Times of Israel.

Kindly get off your high horse.

Multiple outlets are reporting he’s a Muslim man. I’d imagine others are not as his religion isn’t exactly relevant to his being a hero.

No I’m not. Not my job to look up other sources for you, but here you go.

As some of you may be aware, over the past few weeks there have been an increasing number of what I suspect are bots which will share one or even a few posts, all relevant to the communities they are shared in, at which point the account self-deletes. I’m torn as the stories are relevant, but they give me the impression of a narrative attack. I’ve seen only one of these accounts actually comment before deletion, otherwise they post and immediately nuke the account.

I have tagged mods and admins but have not heard any recognition on the problem. It’s also notable that by my impression this issue is getting worse. I noticed yesterday that communities I subscribe to which previously have not had this problem are now starting to receive these kinds of posts.

I want the fediverse to be a place to communicate with real people in good faith; this manner of posting runs contrary to that. So that begs the questions, is this actually a problem, and if so, what can be done about it?
