My common cause is with people trying to see to the needs of the people. If a social democrat walks that path, than he is "our own". You'll never get everyone to agree on the details but lets at least agree that the goal is feeding, clothing, housing, leisure, providing for people's needs and that what sets us apart from people who care only for their own needs.

That's like saying that the bourgeois are just the workers that did really well for themselves.

Even along the Ukrainian border, the Russian troops guarding the frontier are their least capable units full of troops typically serving their 1 year conscription. Putin knows that NATO lacks the capacity for a Sneak Attack. Unless Poland orders full mobilization, the Russians won't move more than token forces to the border.
