This got reported as "not LAMF" on the grounds that this person voted for lower grocery prices and got higher ones. This is an understandable argument, because just getting tricked on its own (even if you're unbelievably stupid to think that things like illegal tariffs and deregulation wouldn't do this) is not LAMF.

So let me explain why I kept the post up and still think it fits: she expressly voted for somebody who promised to cut programs like SNAP which make Thanksgivings affordable for millions of people. She expressly wanted these people hurt – to have their Thanksgivings ruined – because to her, they didn't deserve it.

"I never thought the leopards would make groceries unaffordable for me!"

Edit: That said, @bytesonbike@discuss.online, please add alt text to your image or a transcription in the post body for accessibility in accordance with Rule 4.

Of course it is. Also, you knew better, but you did it anyway.

[–] 6nk06@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

She didn't knew better because she is dumb though.

[–] moody@lemmings.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I bet someone she knows explained it to her, but rather than let herself be convinced, she doubled down.

[–] Macchi_the_Slime@piefed.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Absolutely. She 100% heard the explanation and ignored it because "that's just lies against my big beautiful president," and went on her way. I literally just went through it with my Trump voting uncle. I went through what he did that has directly hurt him. The response? I watch too much news.

Biggest fight I ever "started" with them was... Asking what specifically about Trump 1's tax policy benefit them. I mean I know that I asked it because I knew that they didn't make nearly enough to actually see a single cent of a tax cut from that round in 2017. But apparently his wife really didn't appreciate my asking about it because all I got in response was "Doesn't matter, still voting for him" after she specifically brought up taxes as the reason again mind you. I just asked her what specific benefit they got from his tax cuts. But I heard from my Mom that apparently I made that aunt really mad.

So mad in fact I have literally never seen her since actually come to think of it. They divorced not long after that, she moved to PA and is a fucking gay rights conservative which is fucking wild.

Your uncle?

This is what you call Oppositional Defiance Disorder, plus also being in a death cult.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/oppositional-defiant-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20375831

Even the best-behaved children can be difficult and challenging at times. But oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) includes a frequent and ongoing pattern of anger, irritability, arguing and defiance toward parents and other authority figures. ODD also includes being spiteful and seeking revenge, a behavior called vindictiveness.

These emotional and behavioral issues cause serious problems with family life, social activities, school and work. But as a parent, you don't have to try to manage a child with ODD alone. Your health care provider, a mental health professional and a child development expert can help.

These are adults with an adult version of a pathological vindictiveness that is generally seen in 'problem children'.

They literally are whiny, pissy, adult toddlers.

The aunt is more the ODD one. My uncle was the more recent interaction of "ignoring the facts because they don't vibe with his feelings." Don't ask me how the hell they stayed married as long as they did.

My partner's actually got her degree in behavioral pharmacology because what do you mean you told an autist that actually there are rules you can learn for human social bullshit and it's not all some variation of "because I said so" or "that's how we always did it" and there's also a field within that where I don't even have to really interact with any people? She was going to go super deep into the research route until she learned she was violently allergic to the rats then life just kinda happened from there. Anyway she clocked a lot of that in my aunt after meeting her literally fucking once lmao.

Seeing as I basically no longer consider MAGATs to be truly sentient, much less sapient:

She was going to go super deep into the research route until she learned she was violently allergic to the rats then life just kinda happened from there.

That's the real tragedy here, damn, that fucking sucks.

EDIT:

Uh, anyway, yeah I'm an autist too, don't have a degree in psych or pharma, but I do have pattern recognition, curiosity, analytical skills... and a whole fuckton of (c)PTSD from my own truly astoundingly dysfunctional family.

As in: I ghosted them / went no contact with them so hard that they very probably think I am dead.

I'd be curious to find out what all of these "this is not what I voted for" people thought they were actually voting for and why they thought that

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

They were voting for racism

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

They thought abusing brown people would magically fix all the things they told were bad like universal healthcare, feeding children, and safety regulations.

They actually thought things would be cheaper with tariffs because Trump said so. They are hateful morons.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it wasn't just about racism. Sure there are Republicans that are racist but there's still a good percentage of Liberals that are racist too. I think the facts of the matter do indeed matter, and unfortunately that comes with a plethora of misinformation and campaigns designed to target underprivileged voters. Low literacy rates will also exacerbate the divide. I'm so tired of this tirade that because "XYZ" people can't be treated with human decency. I still believe Republicans deserve a good life, as well as immigrants, poor people, and Democrats. Thats literally the point of leftism is to practise distribution of goods on a need basis instead of on merit.

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

This isn't 2016 anymore. These people voted for him a 3rd time well after he made it very clear what he stood for. Racism is his defining feature.
