You are confusing the spread of ideology with the spread of a conquistadorial government. Remember, most of the Germans who supported Hitler didn't realize the Jews were being massacred. And we didn't go to war to stop Nazi ideology, we went to war to stop Germany from conquering the entire fucking world through military means.

The problem with using force to stop an ideology is that to the people who might follow that ideology, the fact that you care enough to use force against a belief system must mean there is something important in that belief system they should be checking out. Trying to stop an ideology with force only makes that ideology stronger, gives it validation.
If you want to stop an ideology, ridicule it. Make fun of those who believe in it. Talk about how stupid they are. Talk about how they are morons not worth your time. Don't give that ideology the validation of deserving force.

The other problem with violence, is it prevents dialogue. If you are hitting somebody while talking to them, they are not going to hear what you are saying.

Remember, most of the Germans who supported Hitler didn't realize the Jews were being massacred.

This is not true. It's a myth. A lot of Germans claim to have not known, but it was widely available knowledge.

"Nazi policies were widely available to the population.[10] Berlin Radio broadcast the mass-execution of Jews in Białystok and the burning of synagogues in July 1941.[11] Numerous speeches spoken by Hitler in 1942 allude to the destruction of Jews.[12] Notably, on 24 February 1942, Hitler's speech celebrating the Nazi Party's foundation alludes to his prophecy of 30 January 1939 in which he foresaw the destruction of European Jews.[13] This speech was then reported the following day in the Niedersaechsische Tageszeitung. Hitler publicly referenced his original 1939 prophecy at least four times in public in the year 1942.[14] Historians such as Confino and Koonz argue that Hitler's emphasis on this prophecy during the height of the Holocaust meant that it became a shared ideal among the society.[15][16]"

And we didn't go to war to stop Nazi ideology, we went to war to stop Germany from conquering the entire fucking world through military means.

Eh, some of both. Notable, there was almost a fascist coup in the US, known as The Business Plot or The Wall Street Putsch.

Trying to stop an ideology with force only makes that ideology stronger, gives it validation.

The implication of this statement is that Fascists can never succeed because their method of action is force. If you were correct, anything they do would actually only make what they're attacking stronger. I think we both know this isn't true. Nazi Germany didn't fall from the inside. The Nazis gained almost total control over the nation, through force.

I'm not one to rule out tools. We should ridicule, we should talk, and we should fight. Yeah, the person fighting can't really talk, and same for the person ridiculing. That doesn't mean these aren't tools that need to be used on occasion. They are there more to show not everyone agrees with them. Discourse is to make people who do agree with them change. They have different goals, so their tactics are different.
