I think it depends on the job. In house cast iron sewer line replacements are only a few steps in difficulty above swapping a sink, not counting the muscle you need to move them, assuming you're swapping to PVC.
I have a decent bit of pipe fitting under my belt. I really only call my plumber if it has to do with gas (like my stove). Pipes that move water, no problem. I try not to fuck with electric systems at all though.
He went over instead of under the French drain lines because he was digging with a shovel. Now it's not deep enough to allow proper drainage from a new bar sink. Awaiting next plumber's ideas.
