You can just check yourself if they are going to throw you under the bus. Call up and pretend to be some other business doing a reference check on you. If they tell you anything defaming, sue. If you are somewhere with one-party consent, record the call.

fearnopeer.com has open sign ups from time to time. I'd say the media is mostly movies and TV. The platform is UNIT3D and they manage their community via forums and IRC. I have invites, but I've not wanted to give them to randos because, well, they are tied to me and if I let shitheads in, that jeopardizes me. Not saying you need to woo me or anything, but if you can convince me that you'll have good torrent etiquette and/or ability to financially support the group, I can shoot an invite your direction.
