There are a few reasons:

  • Test if the plugin system really works
  • As an example for other plugins
  • Avoid bloating Lemmy core with functionality that isnt needed by everyone
  • With plugins its much easier to make adjustments or new releases, and no need to wait for a new Lemmy release (and no need to fork all of Lemmy for minor adjustments)

I also developed a plugin for automatic language tagging of posts/comments, it works quite well even on very short text. Will also put it on voyager.lemmy.ml soon.

EU officials are, incidentally, exempt from chat monitoring – which is quite convenient for someone like von der Leyen. Their communication is explicitly NOT to be monitored. The mere fact that those who drafted this law don't want it to apply to them tells you everything you need to know about it.

Then how do you expect the problem to get fixed? Do you think I'm a mind reader?

Did you open a bug report?

I live in Spain. The user donations alone would not be sufficient, but together with the money from NLnet it's enough to pay the bills.

Of course I could earn much more money by working for a company. But I don't like to be ordered around by a silly manager, be stuck in an office for 8 hours every day and get stressed working on a project I don't care about. With Lemmy no one can tell me what I have to do, and it's work that's actually meaningful.

I realize that it was a mistake to post that. The transgender topic is much more complex and more controversial than I knew at the time. So I will refrain from commenting on it in the future. In any case I'm happy that there are so many transgender people on Lemmy.
