Fallout co-creator Tim Cain says today's games suffer from trying 'to be everything for everyone' when they should be learning from '80s games: 'These games were really focused, because they had to be
Today's games have forgotten the lessons of history, according to veteran RPG developer and Fallout co-creator Tim Cain. Today's games, Cain said, suffer from an identity crisis: "They don't really know what they want to be," he explained. Old games, he said, had a stronger focus—because they had no other choice. Lessons From Old Games - YouTube Watch OnWhen Cain says old games, he means old games. As a result, Cain says, '80s games avoided the danger of "becoming indulgent" like modern games have. 🖊️️🤖

The Sims' biggest sex mod creator says that around 300,000 people use it—that's more than some of Steam's top games: 'It doesn't make sense to me'
Despite its tame rating, sex has always wormed its way into The Sims series—I fear it's a canon event to Google "how to make Sims naked" as a teenager. (Image credit: Electronic Arts)WickedWhims is so popular, in fact, that its creator can't quite believe how many simmers are galavanting around their game with it. Turbodriver sat down with ROMchip last year to talk about his mod and just how many goddamn people are using it. "The number of people playing with WickedWhims is so big that I just can't even believe it." When asked how big, he said: "The numbers are so huge that I can't believe they're actually real. 🖊️️🤖

Tavern Keeper's item design tool is so good one player made a tabletop D&D set where you can actually read the stats on the character sheets
Something I didn't get too deeply into when I gushed about Tavern Keeper last week is its item design tool. Tavern Keeper also invites players to modify existing items or create their own with its in-game design tool and share them with other players. But the item design tool in Tavern Keeper is so flexible that players have been creating some shockingly imaginative stuff. If you open the design tool to inspect Jolle's D&D table you can zoom in even closer and see there's actually a ton of character info on those character sheets. You can find plenty more on the official Discord or the Tavern Keeper subreddit. 🖊️️🤖
