What community are you thinking of making?
Lemmy accounts can see and interact on Piefed communities, and that's true on every client.
No, Lemmy still has much more users than Piefed. Piefed took a big chunk of traffic when lemm.ee collapsed and a big chunk of users migrated from there to here.
Because I took the television community from lemm.ee to piefed when lemm.ee fell.
Yes, they are interoperable.

When do you think TV quality started going down?
I can't speak for movies, but TV is way better than in the 60s/70s/80s.

Yes, each new communities needs to be manually added to each instance and subscribed to by a local user. Lemmy-federate is a service that instances sign up to to federate all new communities added there across the fediverse. Most instances are on it.
