Everyone who stepped up to try to stop the shooters represents the best of Australia. Praising the one who's around to receive the visit doesn't demean the dead, whose families may not want a bunch of politicians muscling in on their grief

I'm watching on silent and I'm a little confused.

I see him tackling the guy, he wrests away the gun, he points it at the guy who tries to run away, then he looks away, raises an arm and lays the gun down. I don't see any blood on him. But he's got bullet wounds in the hospital.

Did police or someone shoot him thinking he was the shooter? Or was he shot by the guy but just powered through?

Is it a meme reference? I didn't get any results. Crosses mean a lot of things in the US, especially to MAGA types, but it's too much for us to hope they're putting them on ballots because it would invalidate them.

Sadly, the cake had not been inoculated with cholera so the people who most deserved it were not among the victims.

If you're sitting in hot bleachers, the cooling effect on your hand or forehead is pretty nice, and you're gonna drink the drink before it's warm anyway. Hot is more of a problem unless you're cold enough to be wearing mittens.

A cat's mental state leans towards indifference naturally, it doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad owner. If it doesn't mind being around you, and it can be relaxed in the same room, that's a good sign it considers you a friend. Although if you can sometimes muster up a few minutes of play, that might be good for both of you.

This year I got all my niblings samba whistles to drive my siblings nuts. I included a note about blowing 3 quick blasts repeatedly for ICE or an emergency. Any whistle is good of course but I liked the idea of 3 different notes when just playing around.

For less noise and more challenge, a shepherd's whistle.

Yeah the black one

The Amex Black Card is the one I was starting to refer to, I got interrupted and decided to hit the button rather than elucidate further. Sorry. You can look up the requirements and benefits, it wouldn't be good for me but for someone who travels a lot and throws big expensive parties it might. Or if they're basically a corporation

The small retailer I worked for didn't take Discover. We took Amex though, because it was high-end and wealthy people love their Amex.

Editing to clarify, had to dash off before: wealthy people love their extra-thick Amex Black Card made of titanium or whatever, that we used to have to type in by hand because it would damage the old slide readers. So as long as we were taking those we took regular Amex cards too.

"If it's the Nobel Committee they'll leave a message." But they'd better text as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if a number of awardees find out through journalists and then have to go back through their ignored messages or Spam folder.
