I feel like a lot of people don't appreciate that instances are different communities, though. A new user may not see the difference, but the Ask Lemmy communities in .ml and .world are different based on the people who use each. If Lemmy grows, I can see the various instances becoming more distinct, not less.

I go between large and extra large, usually dependent on how close I want the shirt to fit. Also, most shirts are sized based on shoulder width over other dimensions.
As for pants, I usually have to try them on as the waist can be off by 2".
I've seen some discussion, but it is more geared towards how it may not be good for people consuming the services. Very few societies see sex work as a good thing, even if it is made to be equitable for those doing the sex work.
I expect there will be more wars as countries no longer have a nation to enforce current borders. My guess is that the next international order will look more like the Concert of Europe with varying spheres of influence.
I cut the cord from cable TV over a decade ago and never went back. It was getting bad then; I can't imagine how bad it is now.
A lot of the YouTubers from the 2010's are gone, but I've found enough new ones to justify getting YouTube Premium to skip the ads. I don't engage in individual videos, but I follow a set where YouTube can figure out what I want and I make sure to not watch any alt-right videos. I also subscribe to Dropout and Nebula, which shows the kind of videos I watch.
I've limited my news consumption to the Economist. It is expensive, but the bias is pretty muted in American News.
But overall, what we're seeing is a race to the bottom on all media. It used to be that media took up valuable space, either in physical space or bandwidth. Now, the cost is media space is near zero, so there is a drive to the bottom where that never existed a generation ago.
I'm defining how a system functions; I'm not judging it.
Some people are using it for work purposes when there isn't a major policy on it.
You can tell because the work is shit.
I think that focusing everything on UBI and dismantling all other forms of welfare are going to create massive inequalities in society that few people anticipate.
For instance, I wouldn't be surprised if there are effectively UBI free zones in some major metros with decent economies.
I don't think it is. Unless you are the host of a major instance, most of your interactions are going to be on other instances; these instances can do whatever mod actions they want against you.
If there are people interact on your instance, then you have the ability to restrict their speech.
Part of the conservative argument against government welfare is that is goes to "the wrong people". I don't think there is going to be much cognitive dissonance between getting wood from these banks while being happy that Medicaid is taking a hit.
There is nothing inherently built into Lemmy that protects freedom of speech over Reddit other that being able to host your own instance.
I gave the only speech at my sister's wedding that got people to cry. I also didn't embarrass her in front of her friends.
