Obviously, Mary Shelley. Created the most famous character of all time and the entire genre of science fiction while still a teenager.

I'm a fan of Tanith Lee. She started weird fantasy and Neil Gaiman stole all his best ideas and most of his writing style from her.

Karen Slaughter writes detective novels that make Jack Reacher look like a school boy.

Tana French is Slaughter's Irsih cousin.

Joanna Russ was an out Lesbian back in the 1970s. "The Female Man" is still cutting edge.

The trouble is that a lot of the good stuff is forgotten as well.

Here are some movies you've probably never heard of.

"The Day of the Jackal" [original]

"The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" [original]

"Silent Partner" Elliot Gould

"The 3 Musketeers" Raquel Welch and Oliver Reed.

"Little Big Man"

I never hear them mentioned but people will rewatch a Hitchcock movie fifty times.

"Silverberg's Law"

Someone once asked science fiction writer Robert Silverberg why 90% of the SF stories they read were crap.

Silverberg replied that 90% of everything is crap.

The new serfdom.

The company will provide you with food and shelter and you do what you're told to do.

The 'talented tenth,' people who are clever enough to be useful, will be raised above their cohorts, but in most cases no one who isn't already part of the ruling classes will be able to ascend.

It's a pretty specialized job, with less than a million* people doing it in the whole country. I don't want to give anything away.

*Actually, somewhere between 27,060 and 989,515 full time employees.

I got hurt on the job and was given compensation. While I was free someone suggested I get a book called "Discover What You Are Best At," by Linda Gail.

It's a series of tests and then a list of the jobs that use those skills.

I've read a few 'self help' books over the years, but this is the one that actually worked.

And no, I won't mention my career. What made me happy will probably make everyone else miserable.

If you're going to put words in my mouth, please order a side of chips and salsa.

Show me where I said that was the only reason Carter lost.

...And the Left does the same thing.

Back in the day, a lot of folks couldn't bring themselves to vote for Jimmy Carter because he wouldn't take a strong stand on South African apartheid. We got ronald reagan who embraced embrace South Africa.

I'm sure Trump cares as much about these folks as he does about George Santos. I expect he'll be sending them a big check any day now.

I started using the '5 minute rule.'

If I see something that needs doing, and it will take less than five minutes, I do it right away. Instead of wasting time thinking about doing it, I save time.

It got me in the habit of picking up stuff. More, it got me to plan ahead.
