This is an old one, but the Maltese Falcon is a nearly perfect movie, but it is absolutely ruined by Mary Astor as the femme fatale.

She's supposed to be this stunningly beautiful woman, Spade's Secretary warns him to brace himself before she comes in because "she's a looker." Then she enters, and she's just sort of normal. Then his partner comes in and completely loses his shit over how gorgeous she is, and I'm sitting there thinking "Her? What's the big deal?"

Throughout the entire film, she's portrayed as this conniving woman whom Bogey can't resist, but I just didn't see any chemistry at all.

I told my son, who is an extremely knowledgeable cinephile, and he told me that's a thing. Filmies have noticed how absolutely wrong she was for that part. She was a fine actress, but that role called for a completely different kind of actress. It was probably a studio thing, insisting that she get the part, since she was between pictures, and they wanted something high profile to boost her career, and a Bogey mystery would be perfect. Unfortunately, she was terrible in that role.

Who should replace her? Pretty much anyone else at the time, maybe Barbara Stanwyck.

MAGAs are perfectly willing to lie to advance their agenda, they think lying and cheating are perfectly legitimate tools. If their opponents choose to not use those strategies out of sense of morality, that's on them. MAGAs feel no obligation to comply.

This will be the first election where AI and deep fakes are fully available. I've been waiting for this moment, and here it is. Which party will embrace deep fakes, and try to run campaign ads featuring their opponents saying and doing fraudulent things? I think we all know.

Yeah, a Muslim being the hero in stopping other Muslims from killing Jews really messes up their preferred narrative.

Yeah, I'm a little unclear on that, too. It seems like he disarmed the first shooter, and the second shooter must have shot the hero from the bridge. I think that's what happened. Somehow one shooter (Dad) ended up dead, and the other (Son) wounded, but I'm not sure which was which.

What about a good guy who takes away the bad guy's gun? That's new territory for rationalizationists.

30 Rock had some of the best wordplay I've ever seen in any show.

No, I mean that as a kid, I wanted to say every syllable, but I found it difficult. I could hear adults saying it the easy way, but I wanted to know the real word. I loved to read as a kid, and soaked up every word I could find.

For most new native English speakers, it's Spaghetti (pisketty) and Elephant (efalent). For my son it was Caterpillar (calapitter). I struggled with pronouncing Uncomfortable. I wanted to say every syllable.
