the hilarity of the cooking and mealprep community doing "content warnings" for literal food is always a good source of laughter.

Hexbear is explicitly pro-vegan, and takes care to make it a space where you can avoid seeing meat consumption if you wish. That's why there are CWs for meat.

I'm not a vegan but it is very annoying how much I still see vegan hate on lemmy. For a place that's generally pretty mature, it's lame to see how many people get mad at the thought of other people not wanting to eat dead animals.

Lemmy is filled with people who are newly radicalized or generally progressive, but haven't really confronted their internal biases yet.

[โ€“] MagicPterodactyl@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's a fair point. I'm sure most of the vegan haters will come around eventually assuming they have empathy as a core part of who they are.

Usually confronting your biases takes a catalyst, you don't just do true passive introspection without prompting.

I'm fine with people being vegan/vegetarian, as long as they're not up in my face about it

I don't hate vegans, or veganism.

I do however, find the censoring of food absolutely hilarious.

[โ€“] Camille_Jamal@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

It's not censorship; it's still there, but there is CW's for those who don't wish to see it.

[โ€“] MagicPterodactyl@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

A warning isn't censorship, it's just telling people about the content of a post.

Not really, it's entirely reasonable.
