A tweet that's purely a take quoting a tweet that makes a "walking it back" claim without quoting a statement or anything? I'm supposed to take this at face value?
If there's a real criticism here, let's see what the guy actually said.
IIRC he had never firmly committed to boycott Cornell. He had been asked about it and said something more or less like "yeah I'll look into it."
No. He walked back his past activist statements.
If it should be part of BDS shit then yeah it doesn't look good but also I wonder if the Fell For it Again gooner crowd about to cum over this might have considered it's a "pick your battles" situation and Mamdani and his administration might not have the funding or organizational capability to fight Cornell while also doing all of the other shit that they want to do
I wish people would just fucking wait until he's actually in office so I don't feel compelled to defend someone who might meet or exceed their expectations for him being shitty but like jesus christ I wish people would wait at least a month or two before they wail in ecstasy over how shitty Mamdani, a person who still isn't in office and has consequently done nothing as mayor so far, is
the fell for it again crowd are the only ones who fell for it again, railing against a second-order imagined version of him they imagine other people are imagining.
he didn't present himself as the revolution, repeatedly shouting "look how bad the succdem is for falling short of the revolution" is silly.
there are so many people here who seem to WANT mamdani to be AOC/Bernie or worse, like, they are fucking giddy with themselves over how hilarious and fun it will be to point and laugh and FELL FOR IT AGAIN award all the FUCKING IDIOTS who dared to have hope
it's disgusting honestly, they're acting like rabid ass bluemaga/redmaga dipshits so ready to hoot and holler with glee they KEEP DOING THIS. This isn't the first time some loser has dredged up weeks old "information" about mamdani so the hogs can oink and squeal with glee over how BETRAYED the left is, and oh, look at that, there's literally nothing new here
I find it tiresome because it should be fucking obvious "the left" is never going to get anywhere if they're so eager to eat their fucking own that they abandon all support over the shit Ive seen posted.
It's wrecker shit at this point, if you're not being paid to post about how mamdani is literally the CIA weeks to months before he even enters office then congratulations, you're fucking up doing their work for fucking free!
In what fucking universe is a demsoc comprador "our own"? And why do you think any of this info being "weeks old" matters? A few weeks ago is extremely recent and definitely still relevant, seems like you're just looking to make excuses
I don't think it should be taken as a self-evident truth that a social democrat is "our own" when the goals of a social democrat are to fix capitalism, while revolutionaries' is to sharpen the contradictions. I think that in this case OP does just like posting bait, and this post is bait, however.
My common cause is with people trying to see to the needs of the people. If a social democrat walks that path, than he is "our own". You'll never get everyone to agree on the details but lets at least agree that the goal is feeding, clothing, housing, leisure, providing for people's needs and that what sets us apart from people who care only for their own needs.
The problem with this formulation is that an agreement in ideals or values says nothing about an alignment in strategy. If one group thinks the only way to achieve its goal is to agitate, educate, and organize the people to the point that they're capable of the complete overthrow of the status quo, while someone else thinks that the status quo can be reformed and made to serve the people, their strategies will actually be completely opposed to each other. That's true regardless of the fact that both of them might be motivated by the same thing, and even the same goal.
That is an extremely big "if"
