Each Lemmy instance has its own rules, and each community as well. Please read them before posting, because rule #3 for this community is:
I switched from reddit awhile back. It is similar, but so far have seen a lot less hostility than reddit. I don't have time for those types , so if they turn to insults rather than proper dialog I just block them, even if they weren't talking to me directly. It makes it a much more pleasant experience

But seriously it is much friendlier, the only thing i do differently is i tag users who bother me or who i see being and agitator.
That way i see who it is and don't react. I also try not to block people because we all have bad days and it's kinda like killing them with no trial.
I check their other comments to see if it is just a one off, or their overarching personality type. Majority they are dicks to everyone.
