Assuming that in the future most jobs will be replaced by artificial intelligence or other advanced systems, is it (in your opinion) highly likely that the powerful figures of this world would want to commit genocide against a large part of the world's population, or would we be dealing with true philanthropists?

I often hear complaints about Donald Trumps short term temper tamprums he throws. Random acts to flood the zone. He can talk for hours about complicated regulations, and how he hates them for making his tractors expensive to fix he uses to mow his lawn on his gigantic properties (insert any other shittalk here).

So I wonder, how strategic the team behind him operates to secure the survival of his ideology, "Trumpism"? Do they have a long term vision? Something secret and intentional behind even Project 2025? A sequence of actions that seem disconnected but fit together to reach a goal?

Companies like Palantir will greatly benefit from Trumps presidency I think, even long after Trump is gone.

Google has definitely gotten worse in the past few years and it's fucking impossible to find any articles or news or academic papers or anything on any topic that doesn't fit the opinion of Washington or Langley.

Anyone have any recs on what else to use.

I'm going to be delivering an online intro to programming session to a non-technical crowd who will be "following along at home". Because it's online, I can't provide them with machines that are already set up with an appropriate development environment.

I'm familiar with Linuxes and BSDs but honestly have no idea how to get set up with programming stuff on Windows or macOS which presumably most of these people will use, so I need something I can easily instruct them on how to install, and has good cross-platform support so that a basic programming lesson will work on whatever OS the attendees are running. Remember they are non-technical so may need more guidance on installation, so it should be something that is easy to explain.

My ideas:

  • C: surely every OS comes with a C compiler pre-installed? I know C code is more platform-specific, but for basic "intro to programming" programs it should be pretty much the same. I think it's a better language for teaching as you can teach them more about how the computer actually works, and can introduce them to concepts about memory and types that can be obscured by more high-level languages.

  • Python: popular for teaching programming, for the reasons above I'd prefer not to use Python because using e.g. C allows me to teach them more about how the computer works. You could code in Python and never mention types for instance. Rmemeber this is only an intro session so we're not doing a full course. But Python is probably easy to install on a lot of OSes? And of course easy to program in too.

  • Java: good cross-platform support, allows for teaching about types. Maybe a good compromise between the benefits outlined above for C and Python?

Any opinions?

Without going through the whole source code. You can just look up the information on the web, but how do you know whether to trust that information?

(Assuming no security audit has been listed on the website, or the audit seems outdated.)

I personally like to minimize name changes as much as possible because usually, the current name Just Works and I don't really think it's worth it to break muscle memory or replace signage and stuff.

Marginally related; what is it with American stadiums being named after big companies? And when the naming rights expire, people just have to get used to the new name??

edit: I'm primarily focusing on organizations and places and anything that isn't a single individual person changing names, to be clear

I go eat at McDonald's a lot and almost every time I can hear the staff call out an order number which is ready, but nobody comes to pick it up.

Why would you pay for food only to run off then?

I'm in Germany, in case that's relevant.

Qualification:

I have never been to such festivals, but recently I wanted to try. Do you have any advice and stuff?

Second question: If anyone knows how to get to niche festivals about anime or anime games, I will be happy if you share your ideas, what I should do to get there, etc

Maybe this is just me imagining things and is being completely wrong. I have just been thinking about this question and especially after watching Home Alone 2 in New York. It may just be that I think it looks more crowded in the movies because it actually is a set filled with people, but also there probably should be some truth to it as you now can do so much online that makes people able to stay inside instead of walk to a location.

I am also wondering if the movies represent the real life rush hour, and probably always shows the "most crowded" times of the day.

Are any of you living of have been living in New York that has seen a difference, or am I just imagining the change?

The screenshot is from this video (1993): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT4lDU-QLUY witch I feel is giving me the vibes I am talking about.

I created a video channel on a PeerTube server, but its service quality is poor, so I have migrated everything to another server. The first server' channel is still open, but I have a migration notice on the channel's home page.

The problem is that I have 8 followers on the old server whom I would like to notify directly. How can I do that using my PeerTube handle?

I tried to follow my PeerTube account from my Mastodon account, but it shows "Pending" in Mastodon. When I go to my PeerTube account, I don't see any place for messages, requests, etc.

Any documention or suggestions for me to look at? Thanks.

When I was working as an intern the company was into a group called PSI Seminars.

They are also into Tony Robbins.

When I didn't finish PSI Basic everything changed. I had no future there.

How can I explain to a future potential employer that my last employer was in a cult without looking unprofessional?

I highly think they are going to throw me under the bus if used as a reference.

compare these 2 high heeled sandals:

the ankle strap on the white model seems like a good choice: it's low enough for the feet to slide in and wont touch the leg, meaning nothing constrains the ankle's rotation.

the red model seems like an odd choice: won't it make it ankle rotation more cumbersome? It would be more logical to attach the ankle strap to the foot and not the leg. Or am I missing something?

It also looks strange, having an ankle strap so high. Why would the designer attach the strap right at the end of the slingback and not in the middle, like in the white model?

Alright, so back when I was like 8 years old I lived in Panorama City, California.

My parents were married and we had a neighbor down the street.

As kids my sister and I would hang out with this neighbor, she is female. Unknown to us she was getting beat by her husband and also throwing herself at every guy.

She would tell us kids how bad black people were and to hate them. When my mom got wind of this she told my neighbor, let's called her G, that we can't ever hang out with her again because you shouldn't teach hatred to kids.

About a year or so later, my father is having an affair with this woman. G was well known to have a reputation, she was working at a pharmacy and had to be let go because she kept throwing herself at the manager. She was always very desperate and even acted really weird towards boys. I have always viewed her as a horrible woman that no respectable man should ever want,

30 years later, my parents are divorced and my Dad is with this woman.

My father is an attorney and he makes a lot of money and should have a lot in assets. In my opinion, he should have at least $1.5 million to his name. He does not. He lives in poverty in a condo with this woman. She has 5 dogs there even though there is no backyard and there is constant piss and shit.

My father spends money and only late in life ever thought about a nest egg. He's an idiot with money. My sister and Uncle are the same way. Luckily, I was blessed with the opposite, having very good money management skills.

I think my father gave up his best friend for this woman. He doesn't really have many people outside his brother and now my sister and her family. Btw, my sister stopped talking to him for 10 years when he Judo threw her across a room, but since having children magically went back.

It is now I who is currently estranged from him. Every time I try to talk to him he is calling me a 'selfish little shit' or to 'grow up'. He is a lawyer but argues like a 10 year old with name-calling and dominating the flow of the conversation without listening. He told me he was in anger management but I ruined it by making him angry.

So, my question is this.

Is my father a loser?

I think so, and I try to not be like him. I also think that I should never talk to him again in my life. He is cursed.

I think there is a lot to discuss here.

it's footage made by the Americans to be shown to the court and possibly to the German public to advance denazification. It begins with a map of occupied Europe and the names and locations of the main concentration camps.

I've seen some excerpts of that documentary on several history documentaries, but never the whole film.

In the film shown to the court we see some prisoners praying, thanking their saviors, emaciated dead prisoners, excavators burying decaying bodies by the hundreds, former prisoners describing Nazi torture techniques, a crematorium is shown...

Do you know the name of the footage and where to find it?

my regular shoe size is US 11 (10.5 in, 26.7 cm), so I'd be buying a US 10.5 (10.3 in, 26.2 cm).

A coworker I know does this sometimes. She says its ok with heeled sandals and slingbacks, but not ok with pumps, because sandals and slingbacks are open.

What's your experience? I really like that model and size 11 is sold out.

I think even a bad translation is better than no translation at all, but for some reason the majority of books don't seem to get translated. Why is that?

Example: I have a book which I wanna archive. Would sending a zip with the pages take less storage than sending the, let's say, 10 individual pages sparatedly?

I like scifi and horror, and recently I love time travel and ghost stories. I’m annoyed with tropes and overcooked scripts.

Ideas?
