I've recently planted some chili plants, and after a week, I noticed that the leaves were yellowing. After running through all the possibilities, I found that the soil stays super wet even in summer in the full sun.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

And how can I fix it?

Thanks for any help!

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — Chile’s ultra-conservative former lawmaker José Antonio Kast secured a stunning victory in the presidential election Sunday, defeating the candidate of the center-left governing coalition and setting the stage for the country’s most right-wing government in 35 years of democracy.

This is a genuine question. I've always had an interest in learning languages and I have a list I want to learn. I am already somewhat decent in Spanish, so I'm picking up that, practicing my Portuguese, going to learn French and Italian, maybe German, learning Polish, and possibly Russian.

I already canceled the idea of living in Russia due to obvious reasons, but will I have any need to learn the language? Will it be useful? Will that be offensive? Many people HATE Russia and the language.

Things along the range of:

"Checklist - 1. Ensure that the thing is on."

I've seen stories of people who just don't get it and need their hands held all the time, so what are things where you kinda feel that things are a bit too "hand-holdy"?

Purchased one of these to give to my friend's dog, but it kinda came out of the store with these black hairs(?) and some muddy(?) parts. Didn't find anything on the internet on which products should I use and how do I clean one of these, so...

Although if such a community already exists, then please give a link if you have one.

I would like to create a community where people can express their bad feelings or feelings in mini-stories and even get praise or support as an "Art Share🎨", expressing their soul however they want, without stupid fan services and stuff, is it a good idea or not?

Hi, I promise I have no unethical intentions with this post. And forgive the cheesy stock photo; I wasn't sure what to put there.

Avoiding specifics, a friend of mine has a physically-distant, yet emotionally-close, family member go silent for no apparent reason. This person has a history of mental illness and dissapearing from time to time, but it's been a year, and my friend is worried. The family member doesn't have much of a social media presence, and we don't know anyone who could check on them in-person. Right now I only know their name and a vague idea of their location (which is in the United States).

Here's my question (and some followup questions): How can I find any information about their existence online?

Are there any public government records I could search through?

I know there's a ton of advertising data collected by phones somewhere out there. Could that be useful in some way?

xAI’s chatbot has repeatedly misidentified video of the incident and the hero who disarmed a gunman.

Grok’s track record is spotty at best. But even by the very low standards of xAI, its failure in the aftermath of the tragic mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia is shocking. The AI chatbot has repeatedly misidentified 43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed, the man who heroically disarmed one of the shooters, and claimed the verified video of his deed was something else entirely — including that it was an old viral video of a man climbing a tree.

In the aftermath of the attack, Ahmed has been widely praised for his heroism, but some have tried to dismiss or even deny his actions. Someone even quickly whipped up a fake news site that appears to be AI-generated, with an article naming a fictitious IT professional, Edward Crabtree, as the man who disarmed the attacker. This, of course, got picked up by Grok and regurgitated on X.

But Grok also suggested that images of Ahmed were of an Israeli being held hostage by Hamas. And it claimed that video taken at the scene was actually of Currumbin Beach, Australia, during Cyclone Alfred.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday voiced readiness to drop his country’s bid to join NATO in exchange for Western security guarantees, but rejected the U.S. push for ceding territory to Russia as he held talks with U.S. envoys on ending the war.

Zelenskyy sat down with U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Ukrainian leader posted pictures of the negotiating table with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz sitting next to him facing the U.S. delegation.

Responding to journalists’ questions in audio clips on a WhatsApp group chat before the talks, Zelenskyy said that since the U.S. and some European nations had rejected Ukraine’s push to join NATO, Kyiv expects the West to offer a set of guarantees similar to those offered to the alliance members.

A JetBlue flight from the small Caribbean nation of Curaçao halted its ascent to avoid colliding with a US air force refueling tanker on Friday, and the pilot blamed the military plane for crossing his path.

“We almost had a midair collision up here,” the JetBlue pilot said, according to a recording of his conversation with air traffic control. “They passed directly in our flight path ... They don’t have their transponder turned on, it’s outrageous.”

Television and Radio are 75% advertisement.

Most of my favorite youtubers from 2010s are gone replaced with nonstop politics, drama, reaction, and streaming content farming.

I feel it in my heart that short form content is damaging everyones attention spans especially my tablet ridden younger family members.

Weekend trips to Blockbusters to rent out a game and movie is gone.

When I go into the search bar on YouTube I see stuff literally called "brain break" and "brain rot".

I switch on the news and its 90% pure political propagandano matter the station.

Even the memes suck now, say what you want about caption memes and dancing babies and troll face, Pepe, me gusta but that shit was at least comprehensible in humor. go on 67 Wikipedia and it literally says "It has no fixed meaning."

Even the steam store just feels different now. Its full of gooner porn bait visual novels and mundane activity sims and 1 season relevant fps shooters.

All the stuff I enjoyed is gone, and everything they make now seems so empty and pessimistic now. The last bastion of enjoyment zi have is older media and indie made stuff by a few select artist/small teams . Is this just me getting old yelling at clouds, or is something wrong?

Mbin 1.9.0 stable is finally out! Upgrade your server now, if you didn't do it already.

We have 3 different summaries below. One for end-users, one for server admins, and finally a summary for Mbin developers.

Thank you everybody who made this release possible!

Summary for Users

This release contains numerous improvements and changes that we can't list everything here, so we'll stick to the highlights (in random order).

We enhanced security so that after a user changes their password or 2FA, all the current sessions of that user will be invalid and the user will need to log in again.

A new combined front page. You could make the combined front page the default in your profile settings. Which means you see both threads and microblogs combined on the homepage.

We also introduced a new feature under general settings, where you can select "Who can send you a direct message" (defaults to everybody).

We added support for magazine banners in Mbin (which is also compatible with Lemmy Communities).

Mbin combines the thread form into just one form (instead of having article, link, and photo having a separate form). Mbin now also federates bans correctly (both incoming and outgoing bans).

Global mods can now manage (view, approve and/or deny) account signups. Global mods can now also receive signup notifications, which will also come with a new menu item in the drop-down menu.

Plus various other bug fixes and CSS layout improvements, ban notification fixes, and too many other fixes to mention here.

Summary for Server Admins

Multiple Docker setup enhancements, we upgraded to Debian Trixie images. We also upgraded to use Node v24 (current LTS release) within our Mbin Docker images. Plus we added a new amqproxy service to the docker compose file. See upgrade instructions for Docker below for more info.

We now added two different server settings:

  • Restrict "Random Threads/Posts" sidebar sections to local only
  • Restrict "Active people" sidebar section to local only

The first option has been known to cause SQL performance issues (we recommended NOT enabling this first option), hence we gave you the two options. The second option shows local only active users, which does NOT impact performance (so feel free to enable that option if you wish).

Mbin now comes with new moderation log filter capabilities.

We also documented Anubis setup for Mbin, setup is optional. However, Anubis could protect your server from DDoS attacks or other unwanted traffic towards your server.

Mbin now also has a command to rotate the private keys for one user or all the local users.

We renamed an existing environment variable: MAX_IMAGE_BYTES to: MBIN_MAX_IMAGE_BYTES, please rename the variable if you have set it. On top of that we also added a new environment variable: MBIN_USE_FEDERATION_ALLOW_LIST (default value: false) for in the .env file. We also added MBIN_NEW_USERS_NEED_APPROVAL (also default value: false) several months ago, in case you didn't added that variable yet. Although both variables are optional to add. See the latest .env.example file.

Finally, we upgraded several Composer dependency packages plus Symfony recipe updates as well as NPM package updates. So like always be sure to run: ./bin/post-upgrade to install all the updated Composer packages (on bare metal). Which should fix security vulnerabilities in our composer & npm depedency packages. And clear all caches.

Summary for developers

We extended and improved the getting started guide, documenting how to leverage dev containers to get started. Please follow the full "Docker as a dev server" guide if you wish to help with development.

We also created a new Fediverse developer page that lists all our ActivityPub messages.

See the full release notes / how-to upgrade here: https://github.com/MbinOrg/mbin/releases/tag/v1.9.0

I want to poison as much of my online data as I can, and I know that companies can get it anyway if I delete it, but if I were to spam sheer volume, it would cost more than it’s worth to try and sort it.

Dad uses windows and the main device I use is his laptop, and I understand that Microsoft scrapes everything they can. He’s going to reset his laptop soon, so all the junk is erased, but would it be possible to temporarily poison most data on there (from ms perspective) until it’s reset?

Would it be possible to do that on other things too, say corporate owned software, social media, etc?
