I haven’t checked Lemmy for a long time but I wanna get off Reddit again, yet I still need to know how many users are on here. Which lemmy instances are suitable to me, the most popular, and which ones to avoid? For context, im queer, anarchist with DemSoc leaning, and environmentalist. Is there a comprehensive list of all the instances and their main functions? Is the instance I’m on still workable? Any feedback would help, thx. <3

Nah, you're a tankie.

You can easily find Anarchists on PieFed either on Quokk.au or Anarchist.Nexus though for anyone who wants to join us.

Why is that supposed to be an insult, I know nothing of tankie But was called one a couple days ago

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au -1 points 2 weeks ago (47 children)

Tankies are people who supported the use of tanks to attack the civilian protests against the USSR in Hungary and later Czechoslovakia. That became the default term for anyone who supports brutal authoritarian states that suppress the people to assert their control. In modern day context a tankie would be someone who blames Ukraine for being invaded and denies the genocide of the Uyghurs.

Some rightwing/centrists like to use it to insult any leftist. You can just ignore those ones.

I appreciate you for taking the time to explain this to me, mostly sounds like a term people used to other other people

Pretty much it’s a thought-terminating othering. To label someone a tankie is to give license for prejudicially dismissing them.

It’s more of a term to point out that someone is the left equivalent of a Neo Nazi.

There is no left equivalent, and horseshoe theory is horseshit.

Don’t deserve rights? Do you even hear yourself?
