I’m talking about a meme that’s been saved on your phone for ages

Had seen a question like this in another sub, thought about asking it in lemmy too.

I've been using Thunderbird to sort out my junk email for a while, ever since I walked away from my Gmail account. Thunderbird does a great job, but it does mean it has to stay running somewhere.

However I'm currently in the process of moving and as a result I've had to shut down the system that that I had been running Thunderbird on. The result of which, obviously, is that my inbox is now being flooded with spam.

Since it's been a while since I last looked at the problem, I figured I ask. How do you deal with spam email?

I used to use archive.today to archive news stories. However, between recently experiencing issues accessing the site and now that FBI trying to shut it down, I need to find a new way to archive.

I came across ArchiveBox, but it seems like you have to self-host and I don't have the tech skills yet to self-host an application. I also know the Internet Archive has the WayBack Machine, but never have good luck using the site.

I am hoping that I can find a site that is similar to archive.today and is not on the FBI's watchlist.

What would a FOSS dating app look like?

The latest massive youtube sponsor seems to be data broker removal services. As a rule of thumb is if I see the same sponsor more than 3 times it's just a scam.

But as I've recently become assaulted with scam calls due to trying to find a different job the prospect of services like these seem to be more and more enticing.

What do you all think? Is actually a service?

Something like this, maybe it is it but i feel like they were just solid colored without symbols. Very maximalist and saturated in color too, probably oriented towards children or game addict adults. Might have been one of those included with Windows default games but I think it was probably a seperately installed thing, also possible but unlikely to be one of those CDroms from a cereal box lmao. No idea

(this is not CozyMahjong)

Currently playing CozyMahjong (they make other Cozy games) but I crave the totally solid mahjong tilez

I recently set up 2 channels for videos on a Peertube server. One is working fine, even with a few hiccups. The other successfully imports videos (around 70 minutes) but then fails during transcoding. So they don't get published and don't show up on the channel home page. They are viewable in Firefox if the URL is known. (A few shorter videos do successfully publish and show up on that channel.)

I'm not an admin on the server so I can't see the logs and the admin has not given me any feedback on the causes for the failures. From what I have read, the long videos take a lot of resources during transcoding.

Can transcoding options be set at the channel level? If so, could someone show some examples so I can suggest something to the server admins to lessen the server load? Thanks.

Literally just had this exchange with my partner of 26 years. I'm curious about how typical our interaction is in the wider Lemmyverse.

I think that these, believe it or not, convey distinct meanings and aren't redundant. They use slightly different senses of the words.

For example:

"It's possibly possible for humans to colonize Mars/create sentient AI."

"It's possibly possible for me to lift 400 pounds if I became a bodybuilder."

"It's possibly possible for Earth to combine with another planet".

That is, it may be possible for humans to colonize Mars or create sentient AIs, or for you to lift 400 pounds, but we don't know yet. (Without making empirical claims, let's assume for sake of example that we know this to be true.) The first meaning of possibility relates to chance/probability whereas the second relates to ability/capability/feasibility. Another way to express it more clearly is "It's potentially possible/there's a chance that it's possible/capable of happening or being done". To just say "It's possible" might convey the same meaning, but risks confusing/conflating it with saying that it's definitely or even currently possible, rather than hypothetically (either physically/nomologically or just logically) possible in the sense of not currently being able to rule it out, falsify/disprove it or prove it either way (but having reason to think it could happen in some scenario).

"It's not necessarily necessary for you to wear a tie to the meeting, they might not care."

"It's not necessarily necessary to use antibiotics to treat the infection".

It may be necessary (in achieving a stipulated goal/outcome, such as success in getting a job or promotion, or tackling an infection) for some conditions or event/actions to be true/occur like wearing a tie or using antibiotics, but not definitely (we can't guarantee it would be required). First necessary relates to degree of certainty/confidence/conviction or accuracy/completeness of what you're saying, second relates to its requirement for serving a purpose (whether or not the purpose is itself necessary/required in any way). One way to say it might be "It's not definitely/absolutely/guaranteed to be required/essential".

How speak?

For example I want to learn more history or math. But as soon as I start reading or watching video, I start feeling sleepy. Rather than thinking “Oh may be I was not really interested in them” I’m curious to know your approaches to learning. If there is a better way to learn new stuff and keep at it.

Hey everyone! I love the Fiat Panda. It’s simple, small, and perfect for getting around a small city. I’ve got an old one, and I’d really like to keep it in good condition.

However, I’ve been struggling to track down a proper service/workshop manual for the Fiat Panda 169, and I’m running out of ideas. I’ve searched all over the internet, checked old forum links, tried BitTorrent, and browsed various archive sites, but no luck so far. I’ve only come across a few scattered chapters of the official manual, never the full thing.

At this point, I’m not sure whether I’m overlooking the right sources or if the complete manual is just unusually hard to find, I've got a newer megane and it's seems way easier to find the service manual. Does anyone know where I might be able to get one — official or freely available? I’d really appreciate any tips, suggestions, or alternative resources that could help with repairs or maintenance for this model.

Thanks for reading!

PD: I know Youtube has thousands of videos about this but I liked the idea of having the official manual

EDIT: After some more time searching I found a few sources:

Still, I might end buying one, the convinience looks tempting.

I hope it helps somebody!

As someone who didn't grow up in the US, I don't have a large family here, nor do we have any thanksgiving traditions outside of turkey or ham for dinner. But I wanted to learn some new traditions, specially some I can do with adults as my kids are in college.

I'm thinking of reading a book on rationalism and critical thinking. Where do you usually go first for recommendations?

People are losing trust in mainstream media because of perceived biased coverage of the Gaza genocide. If that erosion of trust is real, why isn't it prompting wider public re-examination of historical cover-ups and contested narratives — Watergate, Iran–Contra, Iraq, even shifting beliefs about who “beat” the Nazis? If we don't question how past information was shaped, what’s the point of preserving evidence (e.g., Gaza genocide evidence recently removed from YouTube by Google)? Won’t this all be forgotten in a few years, the same way all those previous events are no longer discussed?

What’s stopping a sustained, constructive public inquiry into these parallels between past cover-ups and current information control? Where are good, constructive places to discuss these issues without falling into unproductive conspiracy spirals?

The boss walks in, there's someone on the phone for you:

  • Phone: "Hi, I'm the leader person behind that book/television/film franchise you complain about online and gee-whiz, you're right! We want you to run things from here on out."
  • You: "Do I get supreme retcon powers?"
  • Phone: "Of course! We'll even retroactively edit in your changes!"

Huh, that was easy. What are you changing?

I started playing diatomic harmonica, recently. I've been following some YouTube how-to videos, feels like a nice start. Now I'm looking for some easy blues harmonica sheet music ... I don't mind paying for something, although free is nice too ... but web searches are only displaying cheap online courses. Can anyone recommend a book or website?

I can read harmonica tab.
